Rowan,

I've used Vault (love it) SVN (good once you get the hang of the command line and/or the windows explorer plugin) and StarTeam (total POX - dont bother).

Vault is great if you come from VSS - it's ment to be a VSS done right, and it is. It's not overly expensive, and it's a really good, fast and solid solution. We had no issues moving AfterMail from VSS to Vault, outside of what I'd expect with any more (mostly VS.NET's source bindings in .sln files....)

Subversion is nice, and you can do all sorts of crazy stuff with it, but it is a leap from VSS. If you dont need cross platform, I'd look at Vault first.

I've looked at Team Foundation Server, but by the sounds of it, it may be overkill for what you need :) How do you handle tasks, bug tracking etc? If you want integration, TFS may be good (or the new thing from the vault people, coming "soon"). If your bug tracking system is all good, then maybe not :)

Righto.
