I wrote this quote in my notebook many years ago - I believe it came from a radio interview but I cannot find the source.

Given his interests, it seems possible that he was paraphrasing Douglas Adams, who wrote in Life, the Universe, and Everything:

“The Guide says there is an art to flying”, said Ford, “or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”
